Tat Soi and Blogging

We harvested and sampled our tat soi and some of our swiss chard today. Students took home bags of tat soi to share with their families. If you’re new to tat soi, it’s similar to spinach so it can be eaten raw or cooked. If cooking, the stems can get a little chewy so some prefer to cut them out prior to cooking as shown above. Either chop the stems finely to add to your saute or stir fry, or compost them.

Students also posted on the blog for the first time today answering one of the following questions:
What have you learned so far about organic gardening and why is it important for the health of our planet?
What have your learned about the importance of recycling or water conservation?
What have your learned about eating healthy and why it is important to your body?

Stay tuned for delicious recipes for using tat soi.

  1. I have learned that we need to start to conserve our water because one day we might run out of fresh water. It is also important to protect our water quality. I have learned that it is important to eat a variety of food. You also need to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. Try new things! My name is Jackson M.!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. We planted veggies in the garden. We made journals to keep information about the plants. The lettuce was growing and it got so big we picked it. We took some home and it was yummy in our tummy! We are also learning about how to save water and recycle. We collected candy wrappers, elmers glue, and tape dispensers to help save the environment. It is lots of fun!

  7. In the past few weeks in The Garden Club I have learned about plants, keeping track of the garden, and recycling rain water to use for the plants. We use journals, that we made our selfs, to keep track of the plants. There are 3 beds. All are filled with tons of plants and wild life! I want everyone to keep on recycling! I am looking forward to do more fun at Garden Club!!!!

  9. Our Garden Club is "growing" each and everyday both the garden itself and our children. We are learning about recycling, harvesting, watering, keeping track of our garden through our "recycled" journals. It is so WONDERFUL to see our young generation so EXCITED! Please keep recycling paper, candy wrappers, boxes, and Elmer's Glue Sticks. Please look on the website http://www.terracycle.net/ and start recycling at home!I am so proud of each and everyone of you!

  10. I have found lots of bugs including baby caterpillars and worms! They are in the garden because the caterpillar needs the plants to eat and the worms turn the poor plants into good plants by making fertilizer with their poop. I love my garden!-- By: Becca

We encountered a lot of technical questions and obstacles and you represented Linkhorn at its best by being so patient and understanding as we worked through things to get everyone on board. I WAS SO VERY PROUD OF YOU ALL! and I am so proud to see all that you learned with our garden. Next time save some Tat soi for Mrs. Clarke!
